If you’re in the market for a new mobile workstation that has an extra performance edge, it can be difficult to discern potential differences between well-equipped systems from competing product lines. Those differences are real, however, and they can have a significant impact on performance with CPU-, GPU-, and NPU-intensive tasks. To make an informed purchase that will set you up for success, you need objective head-to-head performance data from testing that uses real-world workloads.
To help support informed purchasing decisions with relevant real-world data, we used a range of industry-standard productivity, AI-related, and content creation benchmarks to compare the performance of three latest-generation mobile workstations: an HP ZBook 8 G1a, a Dell Pro Max 14, and a Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6. We configured the systems with the best AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processor available for each model, so the HP used an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 375, and both the Dell and Lenovo workstations employed AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 processors.
Across a variety of tests, the HP ZBook 8 G1a consistently finished ahead of the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 and Dell Pro Max 14. While some of the wins represent small gains that could add up to valuable time savings, other wins were big enough to impact daily productivity after a single task. For example, based on the Revit 2024 RFO Benchmark results, you could save up to a half an hour per CAD drawing file export, depending on the file format. That’s a real-world advantage that can enable faster iteration cycles, more completed projects, and greater capacity for new clients and initiatives.
