The AI age is here, and AI-based technologies are making waves in almost every major industry. For the many companies that recognize the paradigm-shifting potential of AI, there’s no sticking with business as usual. They know that AI is here to stay and will likely play a key role in their future success. To bring that potential to life, professional and creative teams will need computers that can handle the resource-intensive demands of on-device AI—along with excellent battery life and user comfort. New AI-integrated notebook PCs that can check those boxes are hitting the market, but it can be difficult to cut through competing claims to the facts. Objective third-party data and analysis can help business buyers identify the systems that stand out and that will truly meet their needs.

To see how well some latest-generation notebook PCs handled on-device AI, productivity, and battery life workloads, we put three systems to the test: an HP EliteBook X G1a 14 inch Notebook Next Gen AI PC powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 375 processor, a Dell Pro 14 Premium laptop powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V processor, and a Lenovo ThinkPad X9 14 Gen 1 laptop powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V processor.

We also assessed potential differences in user comfort by conducting thermal and acoustic testing. Finally, we conducted detailed evaluations of each system’s built-in AI assistant, privacy protection features, and repairability.

The AMD-powered HP EliteBook X G1a 14 achieved higher performance in AI and productivity workloads than the Intel-powered Dell Pro 14 Premium and Lenovo ThinkPad X9 14. The EliteBook also stayed cool and quiet under load and provided almost two workdays of battery life. On top of those wins, the EliteBook’s built-in AI assistant, smart privacy protection technology, and repairability gave it the edge in our comparison. Those advantages could help a company successfully integrate new AI technologies for years to come.
