A great vehicle is often the sum of many outstanding individual characteristics, such as plenty of horsepower, sharp handling, and money-saving fuel economy, just to name a few. A car's greatness is also defined by the driver's confidence that it will do what they need it to do—and do it well. For busy professionals, an excellent daily-driver laptop is also more than the sum of its high-spec parts. General and resource-intensive workload performance are critical—especially with the emergence of on-device AI—but a top-notch computer setup that includes premium peripherals can seriously improve your work experience. Upgrading your organization’s PC fleet to new AI-ready laptops with plenty of computing punch under the hood and improved connectivity and audiovisual hardware can be a part of a successful modernization effort that fuels individual productivity and boosts team cohesion.

To determine the potential benefits of refreshing complete work setups—including laptops and key peripherals—we evaluated two sets of systems and auxiliary hardware: a Dell Pro 13 Premium laptop paired with the latest Dell peripherals and a 2020-era Dell Latitude 9410 laptop paired with earlier-generation Dell peripherals. Our assessment included both AI and basic productivity testing, analysis of publicly available peripheral specifications, power management testing, and a juried evaluation in which participants compared the two setups during a Microsoft Teams call.

In our tests, the Dell Pro 13 Premium setup outperformed the legacy Dell setup by 32 percent in productivity workloads. The newer system also completed AI-enabled tasks in significantly less time and offered a broader set of usability, connectivity, manageability, and security-related options. We found the Pro 13 offered more effective power management, and jurors rated the Microsoft Teams visual and audio quality much higher with the newer setup.

Aging laptops and peripherals can struggle to keep pace with new workloads and collaboration tools. Overall, our results demonstrate that by upgrading to the latest-gen Dell laptop and complete setup now as part of a solution-level modernization effort, businesses can equip their team members for more demanding workloads, help improve overall user experiences, and reduce the potential operational and compatibility challenges that can arise from using older devices.
