For many businesses, discussions about whether to incorporate AI with everyday workflows have transitioned from questions of "if" to figuring out "when" and "how." AI engagement may now be a certainty for many companies, but the scope of what AI can do is changing on an almost weekly basis—along with the number of related hardware and software tools on the market. Decision makers may find it difficult to know where to start. While the AI-related landscape is constantly shifting, some clear initial action points for onboarding AI have emerged. A decision to equip your team with computers designed for AI—specifically those containing neural processing units (NPUs) that accelerate AI tasks—will be a key building block in most successful AI integration plans.

New AI-integrated notebooks—such as the HP EliteBook 6 G1a Notebook AI PC—include NPUs and CPUs designed to handle both AI-oriented and traditional resource-intensive tasks. But sound business investment decisions start with solid data. To provide objective AI PC performance data, we used a range of industry-standard benchmarks to compare the AI and office productivity performance of three systems: an HP EliteBook 6 G1a Notebook AI PC powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 7 PRO 350 processor, a Dell Pro 14 Plus laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V processor, and a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V processor. We also conducted thermal and acoustic testing to see if workers could use each system comfortably while they churned through heavy workloads.

In our tests, the AMD-powered HP EliteBook 6 G1a achieved higher NPU and CPU performance scores compared to the Intel-powered Dell Pro 14 Plus and Lenovo ThinkPad T14—including a 67 percent advantage in one on-device AI test and a 33.3 percent win in one 3D rendering workload. And the EliteBook stayed cool and quiet under load. Those advantages can translate to a responsive and comfortable device for busy professionals engaged in computationally demanding productivity and on-device AI tasks.
