For many organizations, in-house AI deployments may provide an ideal way to integrate the benefits of AI tools while ensuring they meet the data sovereignty, regulatory compliance, or workflow customization needs of their specific industries. But in-house AI infrastructure deployment can be a complex process that places a substantial burden on IT staff—demanding validation and precise coordination across GPUs, high-speed networking, storage, orchestration software, and layers of firmware. Even experienced IT teams can find themselves spending days on planning, troubleshooting, and trial-and-error configuration before they run a single AI workload. For organizations that need to move quickly on AI initiatives, a slow, uncertain deployment process can be a costly obstacle to clear.

Dell Services promises to accelerate AI infrastructure deployment while reducing operational loads. Through ProDeploy Rack Integration services, Dell designs, configures, and assembles AI infrastructure at the factory to meet customer-specific requirements. Dell then validates the complete platform before shipping it ready for data center deployment. On site, Dell Services technicians complete the remaining installation steps and configurations, including inter-rack cabling and cluster deployment. For IT decision-makers navigating the brave new world of AI integration, a Dell Services approach may sound like the way to go, but objective data and careful analysis will be necessary to ensure successful, cost-effective AI investments.

To quantify the potential IT time and effort savings available with Dell Services, we performed a side-by-side AI infrastructure deployment comparison. We measured the time and effort it took for our experienced engineers to deploy a complete Dell AI Factory solution. We also measured the time and effort it took for a Dell Services technician to complete the same deployment using Dell ProDeploy Rack Integration and on-site services. The differences were telling.

We found that compared to the manual in-house approach, Dell ProDeploy Services reduced overall installation time by more than 47 hours (84%)—equivalent to more than a full workweek—and reduced on-site time to just over 6 hours. Our team of veteran engineers required multiple days of preparation and four full days of hands-on work to reach the same outcome. Much of the difference came from typical troubleshooting, such as dealing with documentation gaps, PXE boot failures, dependency issues, and configuration missteps—all issues that the Dell Services offering removed.

These findings suggest that organizations looking to accelerate their AI initiatives would benefit significantly from engaging Dell ProDeploy Services—not just for the time savings, but for the risk reduction, predictable timelines, and the ability to redirect skilled administrators toward higher-value work like data readiness and workload preparation.
