If you’re a business leader making device investment decisions for your team—whether that team includes a dozen coworkers or a thousand—you face the challenge of finding the right balance between multiple goals. On one hand, you want to integrate devices that have the performance chops to support your company’s future productivity goals in a rapidly changing tech landscape. On the other hand, you want to avoid both over- and under-investment—which could end up crunching your budget or overall capabilities. One way to respond to that dilemma is by simply buying newer versions of your current “business as usual” laptops and desktops. Another approach is to sink money into top-shelf consumer gaming systems to try and maximize performance. Both of those approaches could come up short, however, in potentially critical areas such as various aspects of performance, support for enterprise-grade memory, specialized software optimization, and more. For many companies, workstations, such as the Dell Pro Max, may be a better alternative.
In a recent study, we explored some of the top reasons why workstations might be a better fit than commercial or consumer PCs for many small and medium-sized businesses. For a start, many workstations are purpose-built for high performance in resource-intensive applications—with powerful multi-threaded processors and professional-grade GPUs. Software vendors can also provide them with ISV certifications, ensuring compatibility and stable performance with professional tools used by engineers, designers, and data scientists. In addition, compared to consumer systems, workstations often support more RAM—which can be critical for AI workloads—and may include enterprise-grade memory to prevent data corruption and reduce downtime.
Our research identified several other areas where workstations may excel compared to PCs—including scalability, reliability, a faster ROI, and adaptability for next-gen AI technologies, among others. Workstations won’t be the right choice for every role on your team, but they can be an investment that pays off by equipping your innovators, creators, and power users for today’s demands and tomorrow’s opportunities.
