Dell, Inc.

We have produced the following currently publicly available reports for Dell Inc.

Exchange 2007 performance test comparing Dell PowerVault MD3000i SAN Array with Dell PowerVault MD1000 expansion enclosure to HP StorageWorks 2000i Modular Smart Array with an HP StorageWorks 2000sa Modular Smart Array expansion enclosure. We compared the Exchange 2007 performance of two entry-level storage area network solutions. We tested the both products using iSCSI interconnects.

Exchange 2007 performance test comparing Dell EqualLogic PS Series SAN with two PS5000XV arrays to HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array with two shelves. We compared the Exchange 2007 performance of two mid-range storage area network solutions. We tested the Dell EqualLogic SAN with iSCSI and the HP StorageWorks 4400 using Fibre Channel

Virtualized Exchange workload performance comparison of end-to-end solutions with iSCSI storage connections: Dell PowerEdge R900 with Dell EqualLogic PS5000 vs. HP Proliant DL585 with HP StorageWorks EVA 4400 Each server ran multiple Exchange 2007 workloads, one per virtual machine (VM). Each VM’s workload used the Microsoft Exchange Load Generator. By combining multiple virtual machines with a disk-intensive workload, the test placed a heavy load on both the server and the storage. Thus, it measured the performance of the overall solution--server and storage.

Virtualized Exchange workload performance comparison of end-to-end solutions with iSCSI storage connections: Dell PowerEdge R905 with Dell EqualLogic PS5000 vs. HP ProLiant DL580 with HP StorageWorks EVA 4400 We tested the following server-and-storage solutions: Dell PowerEdge R905 server with Dell EqualLogic PS5000 storage array and HP ProLiant DL580 server with HP StorageWorks EVA 4400 storage array.

Dell ImageDirect time savings evaluation (complete report and summary) We evaluated the savings an IT organization might realize by using Dell’s Online ImageDirect image creation process instead of traditional imaging tools. We measured the time savings on three different system configurations: Dell Latitude D630 notebook, Dell OptiPlex 755 desktop, and Dell Precision M2300 notebook.

Total cost of ownership (TCO) of Dell, HP, and IBM blade solutions This white paper compares the TCO of the following blade solutions at acquisition and at 1, 3, and 5 years: Dell PowerEdge M1000e, HP BladeSystem c-Class, and IBM BladeCenter H Type 8852. TCO includes hardware, support, management software, IO virtualization, power, cooling, network ports, and data center space.

Migrating from Solaris 9 Enterprise Edition on Sun Fire V440 with Oracle 9i to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 on Dell PowerEdge R900 with Oracle 11g (complete guide and summary) PT has performed hands-on testing and research and drawing on real-world experiences to document best practices and help systems administrators and database administrators simplify operations and take full advantage of new features in RHEL 5.2 and Oracle 11g.

Migrating from Solaris 9 Enterprise Edition on Sun Fire V440 with Oracle 9i to Solaris 10 Enterprise Edition on Dell PowerEdge R900 with Oracle 10g R2 Summarizes and then details the tested and validated approach that PT and Dell recommend for this database migration. Complete guide and Summary.

SPECjbb performance and power consumption on multi-processor Intel- and AMD-based blade servers We tested the following single blades in their respective enclosures: Dell PowerEdge M905, HP ProLiant BL680c G5, HP ProLiant BL685c G5, and IBM BladeCenter LS42.

Performance comparison of five notebook systems in their out-of-box configurations We evaluated five notebook systems—the Acer TravelMate 4720, Dell Latitude D630, Dell Latitude E6400, HP Compaq HP 6910p, and Lenovo ThinkPad T61—on their wireless connectivity options, download and upload performance, and hardware upgrade times.

PT is working with Dell to create a series of Deployment Guides outlining our recommended approach for implementing a tested and validated solution for SQL Server in a variety of environments. PT is performing hands-on testing and research and drawing on real-world experiences to document best practices and help systems administrators and database administrators simplify operations and take full advantage of the software’s features.
